Book Selection ~ Term One: Week Seven

We're entering the second half of the term so there will be less read aloud books from here on out as we finish off some of the shorter series that we are reading. Here is our selection for week seven - with the obvious note that the first book will take MUCH longer than a week to read.

I'm reading the book on the left out loud to Monkey and Monster. It is a fascinating look at the early history of Australia (from the arrival of the First Fleet) thoroughly researched and explained by Jackie French who not only does meticulous research when writing history books, but also has spent 40+ years learning how to accurately read the land where she lives. I firmly believe "Let the Land Speak" should be required reading and a part of the National Australian Curriculum for all senior high school students.

The photo on the left is the next book in the wonderful Australian Geographic series about Australian history that I'm reading aloud primarily to Munchkin. The first six books were a review from when we read them a year or so ago, but books 7-12 have since been published and we are all looking forward to reading those and learning even more.

History selections for Monster (left photo) and Monkey (right photo) as we continue with their unit studies they are doing this term.

This series has been really interesting to read to Munchkin and Monkey. It is fascinating to see how technology has changed throughout history.
