Term Two: Week Nine ~ Nana Returns

The excitement for this week was the return of Nana - and for a longer visit this time - a WHOLE week. The boys were thrilled as they knew this meant lots more time spent with her.

Munchkin didn't waste any time and straight away started playing card games with her.

Of course, there were numerous games of Rummicub.

Monkey helped Nana make lots and LOTS of bread. We had a potluck at church and our contribution was a lamb curry, a pea and almond biryani, and lots of flat bread.

My husband's cousin came over one evening so he could look at one of his sons laptops, so the boys enjoyed an impromptu visit with one of their cousins and enjoyed playing a new board game that Monster found at a St Vincent de Paul store (op shop).

After School Craft Activity at the library with our best friends.

The crafts are really too simplistic for the older children (aimed more at the 5-7 year old crowd)

But after all the lockdowns and drama of COVID, any excuse to socialise is good in our books.

More voracious independent reading for Munchkin - and I'm slowly, ever so slowly, including more high quality books into our library bookshelves so he has better choices. I will also reinforce my term rule of no "fluffy reading" books - which for Munchkin means no Beast Quest or Minecraft books during the term.

Finally, we finished off this selection of junior non-fiction books through the course of our week.

Term Two: Week Eight ~ Nearing the End of the Term

We are quickly reaching the end of the term and the time when my photos reflect more of their non-structured time then their structured learning time.

I found some more of Monkey's drawings and decided to photograph all of them, even though a few of these are repeats from last week. All of these are done without instructions or a tutorial video of any sort. Monkey simply finds a photograph of an animal (or person) on his phone and uses that as his guide as he draws.

As I mentioned last week, I really love the cassowary.

The echidna is also a favourite of mine...

This drawing of an emu is really wonderful as well.

Another After School Activity day at the library - and a Lego week. We were the only ones there this particular week but Munchkin didn't let that bother him. He just got to work building. Below you can see all the creations he made, given that he had two boxes of Lego all to himself.

Munchkin still spends huge portions of his day reading and re-reading his favorite books.

Monkey finished the book on the left as part of Premier's Reading Challenge, and we finished off the second book in the Daisy series which is part of Munchkin's Australian history unit study.

Liz Pichon books are a favourite of Munchkin's. A neighbour gave the boys several of the Tom Gates books, and thankfully the library has the rest in the series as well as a few other books by the same author.

We finished off Monkey's Ancient Greek unit study with these final two books.

And continued working on our books from these two series as well.
