Term Four: Week Seven ~ Books, Puzzles, Board Games, and Our First Summer Heatwave

The weeks are just flying by... we are gearing up for our Christmas traditions and working hard to finish our schoolwork. If all goes well we'll get an early start (one week) on our summer holidays. The boys have worked incredibly hard during this strange year we've had so we will thoroughly enjoy the extra down time.

You can always tell when it gets close to December as our library haul gets HUGE again... one of our favourite Christmas traditions is reading a Christmas picture book from 1st December until 6th January!! So I've started collecting the pictures books along with some others. This year we'll also be reading a couple of non-fiction books about the reasons behind some of the more well-known Christmas traditions, and I also found a modern interpretation of A Christmas Carol that looks pretty good.

Munchkin and I enjoyed playing some games this week... Qwixx and Uno Flip

The three boys enjoyed an evening game of Monopoly in lieu of read alouds...

Two nights of puzzle progress for Monster...

Monkey FINALLY finished his handwriting book...

Munchkin enjoying reading somewhat upside down one afternoon...

We experienced our first intense heatwave for the summer this weekend. On Saturday our high temperature was 41.5C/106F and on Sunday it was 39.5C/103F - though the hardest part of the heatwave was the fact the overnight Saturday the temperature only dropped to 29.8C/85F which meant for some very uncomfortable sleeping.

So to cool off Saturday afternoon/evening the Munchkin took a cool bath with a TON of bubbles in it. He was a happy little boy for quite a long while!

He also spent some time working on his puzzle. This area where the puzzles are being stored is where we put our Christmas tree, so they have motivation to work hard and finish them.

Munchkin is really enjoying having all the Dog Man series in the house at the same time!

These were two wonderful read alouds that all three boys enjoyed...

Working hard to finish up our unit studies...

Munchkin got the GREAT idea to borrow the Timmy Failure prequel and the last book in the series at the same time! He's enjoying reading and re-reading them.

Munchkin's literature selection right now is this Pippi Longstocking set of books. We finished the first book this week...

I finished reading Animal Farm to Monster this week... and we both really enjoyed it.

More Dog Man books for Munchkin...

Term Four: Week Six ~ Flowers, Books, and Other Stuff

Another small stack of books from the library this week... but never fear... Christmas is around the corner and between our nightly Christmas picture book tradition for the month of December, and the summer reading challenge at the library... our six library cards will be maxed again soon.

I enjoyed spending some time this week photographing the beautiful flowers that are blooming in our from garden areas.

Munchkin is excited to see that his succulents are growing nicely...

Nice sunny days mean time on the trampoline...

More beautiful flowers in our garden...

Now that we have a battery operated, rechargeable lawn mower, it is time for some of the boys to learn how to mow the lawn. Monster got his first lesson in mowing this week...

Some of Munchkin's independent reading for the week...

We finished the final book in the Henry Huggins series... we all loved the books, even though they were a repeat for everyone but Munchkin!!

Munchkin relied on some old favourites for his silent reading this week...

Some of our read aloud selection for history this week...

More of Munchkin's books...

In his spare time, Monster is enjoying more Horrible Histories books...

A couple more read aloud selections that we finished towards the end of the week...

Munchkin is loving having some of his favourite series in the house for free independent reading...
