Book Selection ~ Term One: Week Five

Here are the books I will be reading to the boys in the week to come...

History Selections
Vikings for Monkey and Australian history for Munchkin

Our next book in this fabulous series...

The human body series we are reading is excellent - the Virus book looks a bit below Munchkin's ability and learning level, but I have more detailed books to come so it is fine if this one is simple or just an overview.

When we studied the more technical (less personal) aspects of WWII last year we didn't really touch on the issue of propaganda at all so I thought this would be a good book to read. It is junior non-fiction so should work well to just give us the basics and then we can decide if we want to delve deeper into the subject.

Finally my independent read for this week - and I've been in a reserve queue for this book for several weeks. I have three weeks to read the book because someone else (probably many others) has put it on reserve. But reading Obama books is like having a conversation with them so it will be a fast read.

Term One: Week Four ~ Nature and Friends

This was a fun week of learning and socialising... there are LOTS of photos so enjoy seeing how we spent our fourth week of the term.

We have some beautiful flowers blooming in our garden right now so I spent some time during the week roaming around and photographing everything that was in bloom.

I think the right hand photo of these two is my favourite of the lot.

I was able to get some daytime photos of our resident spider while the sun was shining on the spider rather than the back light from the previous week. She is really quite beautiful but we keep our distance because we aren't sure what type of spider she is.

There is a bud on the dragon fruit plant again so looks like more fruit is in our future.

Yes I know I took three photos of the same map, but it gives different perspectives I suppose. I also included the other maps that Monkey has drawn up to this point. It will be interesting to see how much longer drawing maps holds his attention.

I had some people procrastinating doing their written work that required my assistance so I simply made sure everything was ready to go and then I would simply sit at the table and read until the certain boy was ready. This is one of the ways that I squeeze extra reading time into my day and so far it is allowing me to read MANY more independent books than I would normally.

Thursday was craft day at the library... Munchkin and his friends got down to work on their heart cards... though Munchkin was so busy chatting with his friend (who he hadn't seen in a long time) that he had to finish his card at home.

We finished all our junior non-fiction titles this week PLUS I finished reading Screwtape Letters aloud to Monster. I especially enjoy reading C.S. Lewis aloud because his adult books always require some discussion if you want to properly wrap your head around what he is saying. It is quite enjoyed to read a bit and then chat with Monster to see what he is gleaning from the book, and also to see if my thinking is on track. I find that Monster grabs what Lewis is trying to say much quicker and easier than I do.

Friday afternoon and Saturday morning Munchkin worked hard preparing chocolate cupcakes to take with us when we went socialising on Saturday. We went to his godparents house for lunch and he was keen to provide dessert.

I had time on Saturday to work on my puzzle before we headed out for lunch.
These photos are of the same amount of progress - one is taken on my DSLR (top photo) and one on my phone camera (bottom photo).

Cupcake fun at our friends house - somehow I missed getting a photo of Monster. Our friends boys are 9 years old and 2 years old and so much fun to visit with and photograph.

Because of COVID I haven't had nearly the opportunities to photograph Mr 2 and I did his older brother when he was this age. So I focused my photographic attention on this adorable little man and these are my two favourite photos from the afternoon.
