School Holidays: Week Two ~ Impromptu City Excursion

Week Two of School Holidays started out sunny and warm with everyone thinking that proper spring weather had finally arrived. However, if you look VERY closely, you can see a line of wispy white clouds just above the tree line and that is the sign that BIG weather changes are on the way...

Hubby bought a tomato plant so one afternoon Munchkin and I got busy. He was currently growing some rosemary in our tomato climber pot so we had some transplanting to do before we could plant the tomato. Here you can see a picture of the plants as well as Munchkin preparing the soil in the pot we chose for the rosemary.

A nice close up picture of the tomato plant as well as a photo of Munchkin watering the rosemary well after settling it into the new pot.

Adding some good quality soil to the tomato climber plant and planting our new tomato plant.

Finally, our new plants are happy in their new homes... now to see if we can actually GROW the tomato plant to the point of it fruiting.

The three boys (all with crazy faces) waiting for our train. Wednesday was our impromptu excursion day. My best friend (who moved to Queensland five years ago) contacted me to say they would be in Sydney on Wednesday and did we want to join them on the ferry to Manly for a fish and chips dinner... The weather was forecast to be rainy and windy (meaning rough riding for the last 10 minutes of the ferry ride to Manly) but we decided it was WELL worth it for the opportunity to see them for a few hours.

The train ride in to Circular Quay...

Enjoying the opportunity to photograph the harbour on a grey day.

There was a huge cruise shipped docked at the Harbour when we arrived in the city.

The boys (plus one) - my boys, my bestie's boys, plus one additional boy who is a mutual friend of us all... They all braved the wind and the rain to ride outside.

The youngest of our group... "smiling" for the camera.

The real rough waves didn't start until we got out past the heads, but clearly it was rough enough that I struggled to take straight photos. It always amazes me just how different (and muted) the Opera House looks on an overcast day compared to a sunny, clear day.

Group photo at the fish and chip shop. The owner was AMAZING and tolerated our large group well. His customer service was exemplary and he went above and beyond for us. We were happy to give him our business and really hope that his business thrives.

Necessary "silly" photo...

Another group shot after adjusting my settings slightly...

One final group shot once the youngest member returned...

After dinner we walked down to the beach to let our food settle before heading back to the ferry. The wind was ferocious!! But it didn't phase the boys at all...

I had forgotten to lighten my settings after my group shots in the restaurant so this photo is darker than it actually was...

This photo, taken on my phone, is much more accurate.

As we headed back to the harbour the cruise ship headed out to see... it was super cool to watch it pass us.

Monkey and the youngest enjoyed some games of "Rock, Paper, Scissors" on the ride back to the city. However, the ride back was MUCH rougher than the ride to Manly, and I was quite happy once we cleared the heads and the water wasn't so rough.

Waiting at Circular Quay for my best friend's husband to join us all for the train ride home.

I took some quick night shots of the harbour while we waited.

I'm looking forward to an evening in the city with my camera and my tripod so I can get better night shots.

But given how little time I had to take these, they turned out pretty well...

We finished this "school" read aloud during the school holidays mainly because it had reached the maximum renewal limit. It was an excellent book - chosen as part of Monkey's Ancient Histories unit but it included gods and heroes from many more cultures than just Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome.
