Term Three Evaulation ~ Munchkin

  ENGLISH:

Reading ~
* You can see from my Weekly Review posts that we read (aloud and independently) a LOT.
* A book list is included in Munchkin's portfolio with all the books he reads each term.

Writing ~
We still use and LOVE the following curriculum
Institute for Excellence in Writing Program
Teaching Writing: Structure and Style

In Term Three Munchkin wrote paragraphs on the following topics: Hansel and Gretel (narrative rewrite), Alpacas (non-fiction), "Little Yellow Riding Hood" (narrative rewrite) and Snow Monkeys (non-fiction).

We use our IEW paragraphs primarily to show learning in history, geography and science. I do not use textbooks or workbooks for these subjects and instead rely on quality books from our local library.

Grammar ~
Munchkin is not currently participating in a structured grammar program. We may begin an introductory grammar program in the 2021 school year.

Literature ~
"Ramona Forever" by Beverly Cleary
"Ramona's World" by Beverly Cleary
"Henry Huggins" by Beverly Cleary
"Henry and Beezus" by Beverly Cleary
"Henry and Ribsy" by Beverly Cleary

MATHS:

Munchkin completed his Haese Yr 4 mathematics textbook during Term 3. As he has not mastered his multiplication facts yet, I do not feel he is ready to progress to Yr 5 mathematics at this time. So for part of Term 3 and all of Term 4 he will review Year 3 mathematics concepts on the Khan Academy website.
Over the course of the term he completed chapters 6 - 14 in the Yr 4 textbook which covered the following topics: Measurement, Time, Further Measurement, Shape, Symmetry and Pattern, Probability, Statistics, Money and Location.
