July School Holidays: Week One ~ New To Us

Per our weekly tradition now, Munchkin and I make sure to check this succulent plant after church on Sundays. Once we noticed that it had grown a tall stalk we guessed that something interesting might happen. This is turning out to be a lesson in patience for both of us.

Monkey finished reading two books for the Premier's Reading Challenge.

Favourite holiday activities in the early mornings for these two...

I decided that Munchkin needed to tackle the cleaning of his shelves in the playroom so these are a BEFORE (left photo) and a DURING (right photo).

The BEFORE photo of the bottom shelf. I decided rather than spend a whole day cleaning (and dealing with the stress and tears that produces) we would tackle just one shelf per day.

AFTER photo of the bottom shelf and it was a huge improvement. Definitely cleaning one shelf per day is what works well for Munchkin. He stayed calm AND he got rid of a ton of stuff.

I finished reading the third Lord of the Rings book to Monkey this week. We kept going over the first part of school holidays because we only had a few chapters to read and we didn't want to take a two week break so close to the end of the story.

Monkey dressed up as The Onceler for the older boys last youth group meeting for the term, so Munchkin decided we needed to read the book. We hadn't read it in YEARS so it was fun to enjoy it again after such a long break.

This picture was actually taken LAST week when the boys were with their friends preparing for youth group, but as Monkey texted me a copy of the photo I just had to share.

Munchkin enjoyed two activities at the library during our two-week winter break. The first was this rainbow weaving craft which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Munchkin and I house sat for our friends that take the older boys to youth group. The only live about a kilometre from our house so it is quite easy to walk there, check their mail, and the added bonus, Munchkin gets to jump on their big trampoline.

Munchkin made himself ham and cheese croissants for lunch one afternoon.

We were gifted with this "new to us" small sandwich press and I was thrilled. I like to make quesadillas/gozlemes on the stove (in a fry pan) for the boys for lunch but it is time consuming because they have to be slowing cooked, one at a time, on the stove. So the sandwich press made it MUCH easier...

I made a total of nine quesadillas in the time it would take me to make one normally and the boys were full with leftovers for another day. I am extremely happy with this gift.

The BEFORE photo of the second shelf. We were going to tackle this shelf too but decided to leave it for another day... Stay tuned to see how it improves.

Another "new to us" gift this week was this 65 inch TV that replaces our old 55 inch TV. Monster did most of the set up and with some help from Monkey we had it up and running in time for our Friday night movie.

We decided it was only fitting to watch "The Lorax" Friday night.

Four days of excellent walking this week...

Munchkin's independent reading for the week...
