April School Holiday: Week One ~ Family Time

The first week of school holidays was all about relaxation and spending time together as a family. The holidays started with the four day Easter weekend. After church on Easter Sunday we travelled out west to Mt Anan Botanical Gardens for a picnic lunch with some of the extended family on my mother-in-law's side of the family.

By some miracle the VERY first photograph I took was a good one of the whole group.

The kids - ranging in age from 8 years old to 21 years old!!

There were a couple of gorgeous Black Swans on the water but sadly I just couldn't get my settings correct to get a decent photograph. But they were fun to watch while I tried.

Monday we took an impromptu trip to the Blue Mountains. I hadn't been to the Blue Mountains since April 2006 (when Monster was a baby) so it was fun to see the area again. The name comes from the blue haze you can see because of the eucalyptus oil in the air. The three rocks on the left side of the photo are the Three Sisters.

As we were walking from the car park to the lookout, we spotted some beautiful Crimson Rosellas in the trees above us. None of them were cooperating much and the afternoon light didn't help any, but I did manage to snap one picture that wasn't too bad. Then as we walked the trail to the Three Sisters lookout I spotted this beautiful flower.

The guys... checking out the view!!

Monkey and Munchkin discovered this little rocky alcove you could climb up to so they posed for a photo. I'm glad they did because it won't be long and they won't fit up there!

Beautiful sunlight streaming through the trees...

The trees are just GORGEOUS to look at!

The boys thought this tree, with its crazy root system, was hysterical!

I love the look of the trees as they are dropping their bark...

At home during the week we focused on playing games together. I picked up Risk at our local Salvation Army discount store, and we gave it a try. The three boys LOVE it, but it is too much chance (and not enough strategy or skill) for either hubby or I.

Wednesday morning a little bit more of normal (before COVID) life returned for us as we got to attend a craft activity at the library. Monster is too old, and Monkey isn't particularly interested as the two crafts were geared towards the younger ages, so Munchkin and I went up alone. This week the craft was a simple turtle craft using a template for the head and body parts, a paper plate for the shell, and tissue paper to decorate. Munchkin enjoyed himself and I enjoyed the quiet time to browse the shelves.

The three boys have realised they are going to have to play Risk with us adults!

Munchkin spent an afternoon planting some of his Woolworth's Discovery Garden plants.

Saturday was spent playing board games together, and making fresh squeezed orange juice!!

Our read aloud selection that we finished (left photo) and a Premiere's Reading Challenge book that Monkey finished for his independent reading...

All the rest of the books are independent, fun reading that Munchkin did this week...
