This was our one remaining book from the term. The boys and I enjoyed finishing it during the holidays and the stories were wonderful. I’m really glad I did an Australian poets unit study with the boys this past term.
Munchkin attended several school holidays events at our local library during this second week. The two photos above are the sand art pictures he completed at one event. It was a fun event and the other children who sat with him were friendly and helpful.
I spent a good portion of one day this week doing batch cooking. These photos don’t show everything that I did, but the left photo is the weekly batch of sausages that I make for Monster for his breakfasts early in the mornings before he leaves for work, and the right photo is a chicken roasting for dinner.
Two not particularly good photos that represent the walking that Munchkin and I did throughout the week! We walked to the shopping centre several times for the school holidays events and also took some walks around the neighbourhood to check out our local free little libraries.
A photo gallery of Munchkin’s “slime” event at the local library. The very first photo at the top of this selection is a palette of different ingredients that the children had to try to correctly identify. It was an interesting discussion about liquids versus non-newtonian fluids. The remaining photos in the selection are of Munchkin mixing up a batch of purple slime which turned out pretty cool. He really enjoyed this event a lot.
I think the school next door is FINALLY going to do something about the broken wooden platform that surrounds this beautiful European Plane tree. One whole day of the holidays was devoted to workmen bringing in the fencing and setting it up around the perimeter of the platform. Now we wait and see what happens next.
Above are a selection of photos of Munchkin participating in the sand art school holidays event (finished photos at the beginning of the blog). Each picture has been divided into pieces of sticker that peel off and then you carefully apply the coloured sand, shaking off the excess, before peeling another section that you want to decorate.
I have also included a photo of the many squares I knitted over the term. These are 25x25cm squares and the knitting group at the library graciously receives my donations (since I can’t attend the group) and makes them into blankets that are donated to Wraps of Love.
Hubby was generously given tickets to the State of Origin game that was played in Sydney (game 1) and so the boys had a night out together while I enjoyed the game on our big screen TV from the comfort of home.
Our next selection of photos is from our trip to our old library which gave us the wonderful opportunity to catch up with friends. From the top… Munchkin has been BEGGING me to let him walk from one train carriage to the next WHILE the train is moving. I finally said yes, and he LOVED it. The simple pleasures of childhood are wonderful to witness sometimes. Even when I don’t quite understand them anymore.
The next two photos are self explanatory – boys enjoying some arm wrestling – followed by some outdoor time before we each headed our separate ways. It was good to chat a catch up, and wonderful to be outside in the sunshine.
Finally the library is all about books. The first photo is our stack of reserves. When it gets large (as it did here) the librarians take our books out the alphabetical shelving area and just set all our books in two big piles off to the side. It always makes me smile. The second photo is my stack of personal choice books.
Happy library bookshelves all stocked up and ready for a new term of reading. We even have a Nintendo to play around with that we were able to borrow from one of our “back up” libraries.
