Term Four Evaluation ~ Munchkin

 ENGLISH:

Reading ~
* You can see from my Weekly Review posts that we read (aloud and independently) a LOT.
* A book list is included in Monster's portfolio with all the books he reads each term.

Writing ~
We still use and LOVE the following curriculum Institute for Excellence in Writing Program Teaching Writing: Structure and Style

In Term Four Munchkin wrote paragraphs on the following topics: Jack and the Beanstalk (narrative rewrite), Traditional Aboriginal Shelters (non-fiction), The Kitty Who Cried Dog (narrative rewrite), Succulents (non-fiction), and Porcupine Pufferfish (non-fiction)

We use our IEW paragraphs primarily to show learning in history, geography and science. I do not use textbooks or workbooks for these subjects and instead rely on quality books from our local library.

Grammar ~
Munchkin is not currently participating in a structured grammar program. We may begin an introductory grammar program in the 2021 school year.

Literature ~

"Around the World in Eighty Days" by Jules Verne
"Henry and the Clubhouse" by Beverly Cleary
"100 World Myths and Legends" by Geraldine McCaughrean
"Ms Bixby's Last Day" by John David Anderson
"Ribsy" by Beverly Cleary
"I'm Just No Good at Rhyming" by Chris Harris
"Pippi Longstocking" by Astrid Lindgren

MATHS:

Munchkin completed his Haese Yr 4 mathematics textbook during Term 3. As he has not mastered his multiplication facts yet, I do not feel he is ready to progress to Yr 5 mathematics at this time. So for Term 4 he reviewed Year 3 mathematics concepts on the Khan Academy website.
