Term Three: Week Two ~ Puzzles, Books and Art

Week two and we are slowly getting back into the swing of our "normal" school routine - as much as life in normal in this weird year that is 2020. This week was a bit rough - marred by news of stupid people raising the general risk to the public of COVID, and lack of sleep on my part a couple of night - but we soldiered on. My best friend reminded me that we continue to give our children the things that we know are good and healthy for them, even if they don't "like" those things in their lives... and I adjusted my attitude and kept moving forward.

Sunday afternoon now always means that a new batch of library books comes out of the garage quarantine. This week was a collection of "fun" books for Munchkin mainly, a movie for hubby and I if Criminal Minds doesn't cooperate on a Saturday night (our in-home date night), and a non-fiction book for myself. A few more chemistry books arrived as well... We have nearly maxed our six library cards again... so we have LOTS of reading to do.

A good friend gifted Monkey with Uno Flip and Uno Dos for his birthday, so Sunday night saw the boys giving Dos a try with their dad.

My one and only photo of our structured work this week... Munchkin working on his math assignment for the day...

Monster made speedy progress on his puzzle... the picture was too easy!

While out on a walk Friday afternoon we met another neighbour we'd never spoken to in the past, despite the fact that we've lived here for 10 years and they've lived in the neighbourhood for 50 years. But they own this beautiful Alaskan Malamute named Bronx and Munchkin wanted to say hello. We have a new friend now...

We tried something new this week for art... a Mark Kistler tutorial video on YouTube...
You can find his shark tutorial... HERE

During our Friday afternoon read aloud time, Monster finished his puzzle. He will now try his luck with a photomosaic puzzle... stay tuned...

Before our library books came out of quarantine Munchkin resorted to desperation reading... as he's read this series repeatedly already!!

Monster's independent reading for the week...

Munchkin still LOVES picture books so I agreed to reserve all the Pig the Pug books for him...

More independent reading for Munchkin... being the early riser in the house he does a LOT of reading in the morning while he waits for his brothers to wake up.

A short non-fiction WWI read aloud of Monster's...

I finished two books for our Olympics unit study this week... both of these books were interesting and informative...

And we finished off the last Ramona book in the series... on to the Henry Huggins books now
