April School Holidays: Week One ~ Quarantine Holidays and Birthday Celebrations

Week One of school holidays is done and dusted! It certainly didn't look anything like a "normal" beginning to our school holidays, BUT we enjoyed ourselves and we will continue to take one day at a time and adapt to whatever comes our way.

We started our week by discovering that the Montessori School across the road from us is having a footpath/sidewalk put in. The first indication of work being done was Monday when they cut down five trees in front of the school. When I walked up in the evening for a closer look I also noticed the spray painted lines marking where some of the footpath/sidewalk will be. This is going to be a fun project to watch over the next couple of weeks...

We celebrated the Munchkin's 8th birthday this week. I am so proud of him for dealing with the reality that he would not be able to have the Hungry Jack's birthday party with his family and friends as we had initially planned. He accepted that his birthday was going to be very different this year, and chose to make the best of it.

After a breakfast of pancakes and bacon, he sat down in the lounge room to open a few presents...

Throughout the day friends and family helped to make him feel special... the boys enjoyed a Zoom chat with one homeschool family, a Facebook video call with another homeschool family, and a Facebook video call with my mum in America. He was also spoiled with text messages, Facebook messages, and "normal" phone calls from our Pastor and my mother-in-law. We all felt the love that was showered on Munchkin...

A homeschool friend surprised Munchkin even further by dropping off a birthday gift AND Hungry Jack's takeaway for lunch!!

The official "8 years old" photos!!

A family game of Brainiac in between dinner and dessert...

Birthday cake and candles and singing for dessert...

And finally... a couple games of his new Guess Who card game before bed!

More pictures of the continuing work at the school... they started stripping out the grass and dirt to prepare the ground for the concrete!

Evening trampoline time...

Munchkin is keen for the footpath/sidewalk to get finished AS SOON AS POSSIBLE so he can scooter board on it. Our driveway is too bumpy so he has to scooter on the road (with SUPER close adult supervision of course)!!

 Munchkin's turn on the trampoline...

Even Monster enjoys some jumping time...

More ground preparation done... Also I was worried that the council was going to remove these beautiful trees, which would be a disaster as the Black Cockatoos LOVE them... but it turns out all they did was trim some of the low branches which will make our walks around the block so much easier!

 More trampoline fun...

 More scooter board fun...

Munchkin is FINALLY reading this Pokemon series that we own... He is getting rather desperate as he finishes up the library books we have!

We finished the last book in the Little House on the Prairie series...

All three boys are thoroughly enjoying reading the How to Train Your Dragon series... FINALLY!!

I finished reading this book aloud to Monkey and Monster... now they know why soft drink is a party food only for them.
