Term Three: Week Three ~ Mid Week Play Date

Week three already, and we are working hard to get into a good groove.
We had a play date with our best friends this week... Usually we get together during school holidays, but it didn't pan out, so beginning of the term it was.  A bittersweet day as this was our last play date before their move north at the end of the term.  My boys are just beginning to realize what it all means... it will be an emotional adjustment for all of us... but we will get there.  The rest of our week was filled with lots of learning... despite the lack of photographic proof.

Some beginning of the week maths work...
Munchkin tackled addition to 20, and did extremely well with it...
While Monster and I worked through another section of our chapter on probability.

Munchkin (and his bestie) had tons of fun frosting and decorating some cupcakes...

Monster and his bestie whipped up a batch of green turtle cookies together...

Which left Monster on his own to bake a "wacky" cake as his bestie had already made the cupcakes for the little boys.  All three boys enjoyed the "cooking" of the day.

Monster worked on his puzzle one night this week, and made dramatic progress... I am continually amazed at how his brain works out jigsaw puzzles.

Our Thursday co-op day and we learned a bit about the patella reflex as part of science.

Munchkin did some catch up Letter of the Week work...

Monster's Grammar assignment for the week.  This is a perfect example of why I believe the IEW curriculum that I purchased was worth EVERY SINGLE cent I spent on it.  I was blessed enough to find an older edition, 2nd hand, for a bargain... but if I had to I would pay full price for this curriculum.  It is WONDERFUL. It has been a godsend for our homeschool.  My eldest son will now write an assignment, without complaint, and put 100% of his best effort into it!

Using Lego (yet again) to help with math concepts. This time it is subtraction with borrowing. Also, thank you Monster for taking a photo of my "teaching" moment with Monkey.

Independent Premier's Reaching Challenge books for Monster...

Munchkin's bedtime picture book selection for the week...

 Left: Independent reading for Monster
Right: Read aloud selection for Monster for the week

More read alouds... Monster and I finished off the last of his Vikings books and all three boys enjoyed this wonderful book about the history of animals and how they impacted the world. This was lunchtime reading...

Finally, two more bedtime books for Munchkin!!
