Farewell to the Monorail

I first discovered the Monorail when my brother visited in 2001.
Since the birth of Monster we have ridden the Monorail frequently.
Nearly every time we have visited the city.
So the two older boys were rather upset to learn that their beloved Monorail was to be decomissioned and sent to Tasmania.

We were in the city at the beginning of June but did not have the opportunity to ride the Monorail so I promised the boys we would make a special trip in to the city just for the event.

But then two straight weeks of rain and about four straight weeks of illness nearly put a stop to that.  Monster woke me nearly in tears this morning to remind me that this was the last weekend the Monorail would be running so I threw our schedule for the day out the window and off to the city we went!

The day didn't quite go as I planned however.
EVERYONE was trying to ride the Monorail and shortly after we got there one of the trains broke down and we were advised that it would take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours to get the broken train off the track so it could run again.

It was raining so we made a hasty dash to the Australian Museum since we have a yearly pass and spent a couple of hours checking out our favourite exhibits.

Finally we made it back to the Monorail (and we enjoyed our walk since it was no longer raining) and got our last ride!

We love bugs!  The boys are obsessed with the Praying Mantis

 Beautiful Birds...

 Spiders...

 Butterflies...

 Dinosaurs...

The boys LOVE all the interactive stations...

We checked out the REAL stick insects...

And finally looked at some Aboriginal artwork...

Before walking back to the Monorail station...

Their last ride...
